A restricted interlock license authorizes you to operate a motor vehicle equipped with an Ignition Interlock Device. When the Texas Department of Public Safety receives a court order saying you need an IID to drive, your driving privilege will be cancelled unless an IID is installed on your vehicle and/or any vehicle you use and get a restricted interlock license. The cancellation takes effect 30 days from the date the Texas DPS revokes your driving privileges.
To qualify for a restricted interlock license, you need to have a valid Texas driver’s license. Your license must also not be suspended, revoked, cancelled, or denied for any other reason. You need to also pay the restricted interlock license fees and pay all outstanding driver’s license reinstatement fees. If your license is suspended or revoked, you may apply for an Occupation Driver License. This will allow you to use your car for work, performing essential household duties, or school-related activities.
The reinstatement and the restricted interlock license fees can be paid online on the License Eligibility page or submitted to the Texas DPS by mail. You can find more information about where and how to send this by mail on the Texas DPS website.
