If you need to drive while your license is suspended, you may be able to apply for a probationary license with limited driving privileges. The Montana MVD lists the conditions of a probationary license, including when and where you’re allowed to drive.
As part of your probationary license, the court might order you to install an Ignition Interlock Device at your own expense, and to drive only vehicles equipped with an IID. Depending on your conditions, you might also be ordered to participate in the 24/7 Sobriety program, which requires daily alcohol monitoring whether or not you are driving a vehicle.
When you’re ready to apply for reinstatement, you’ll do so through the Montana MVD’s license suspension portal. You can also apply and pay your fees by mail. Note that you’ll have to pay a $200 reinstatement fee as specified by the law and fulfill any other conditions, such as obtaining SR-22 insurance coverage.
