You will be required to install an Ignition Interlock Device by the state of Washington to regain your driving privileges if you’ve been or had:
- Arrested for alcohol or drug related DUI or Physical Control of a motor vehicle.
- Arrested for operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device installed.
- Multiple convictions of wet and reckless driving.
- Multiple convictions of wet and negligent driving.
- Multiple convictions of circumventing an ignition interlock device.
- Any court ordered IID requirement.
For more information about when you would need to install an Ignition Interlock, check the Washington Department of Licensing website. They also provide general guidelines for how long you must have an IID installed.
According to Interlock laws in Washington, you can get an IID installed before your conviction or court order, and you’ll receive day for day credit towards your requirement period for each day the device is installed in a vehicle. If you have multiple DUI convictions or arrests, you must get an IID installed within 5 days of your conviction – this can help you avoid extended license suspension or license revocation periods. Visit the Washington DOL website for more information on how these Interlock laws can affect your situation.
