What Are Ignition Interlock Device Tests Like?

If you need an Ignition Interlock Device, or IID, you will want to know how to complete a test. When you choose Smart Start as your vendor, hands-on training is provided at installation, as well as a 24/7/365 Customer Care Center that can address any of your questions during your program.

Smart Start’s Ignition Interlock Device Test Patterns

We ensure that our Ignition Interlock testing patterns are easy and seamless. Other vendors require you to blow, then suck from the device, which is a troublesome and sometimes unsanitary process. Smart Start only asks for a blow-only test, or a combination of blowing and humming. Plus, our Ignition Interlock tests last seconds.

Although we have a variety of easy testing methods, clients can only use the breath pattern regulated by their state.

Here’s the three simple test patterns we use below.

  • Blow-Hum

The blow-hum test requires the user to blow into the mouthpiece for a couple seconds, then transition into a hum by saying the word, “who.” It’s important to keep your airflow consistent as you transition from blow to hum. You’ll hear a click sound from your device that tells you it’s the end of the test.

  • Blow

For the blow, or no-hum, pattern, all you need to do is take a deep breath and blow continuously until you hear the clicking sound from your device.

  • Hum

The easiest way to perform the hum pattern is to say the word, “who,” during the test. Keep humming steadily into the mouthpiece during your Ignition Interlock test until you hear the clicking sound from your device.
