Will Halloween in 2018 See Less Drunk Driving Incidents?
Halloween can be frightful with ghosts and goblins, but did you know that there’s a bigger scare altogether with an uptick in drunk driving crashes during the holiday period? It is unfortunate, but with the parties and get-togethers, holidays see an increase in drunk driving incidents every year.
U.S. Drunk Driving All Hallow’s Eve Statistics
From 2012 to 2016, 44 percent of all people killed in motor vehicle crashes on Halloween night were in crashes involving a drunk driver. And 14 percent of pedestrian fatalities on Halloween night from 2012 to 2016 involved a drunk driver. Over the last five years, there were 168 drunk driving fatalities on Halloween night.
Let’s prevent drunk driving during the holiday, and every other day of the year, with alternative options such as ride-sharing apps or designating a sober driver to get home. If you are hosting a party, make sure your friends and/or family have a safe and sober ride home. Remember that buzzed driving is drunk driving!
