Understanding New Hampshire DWI Requirements

Basic DWI Requirements

We know that navigating a DWI can be overwhelming. Understanding the requirements and process after an alcohol related driving offense in New Hampshire is an important step to getting back on the road. We’ve put together some general information to help you get started.

According to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation website, even a first-time DWI can result in:

  • License suspension of six months to one year
  • Up to $2,000 in fines
  • Potential jail time up to six months

Drivers who get more than one DWI may face steeper penalties, as well as mandatory alcohol education classes and Ignition Interlock requirements. For drivers who face certain charges, such as aggravated DWI, or drivers with multiple DWIs, an Ignition Interlock is almost always required by law.

License Reinstatement

Your license might have been suspended by the courts or through administrative action by the NH DMV. Either way, you’ll have to follow the instructions on the DMV website to restore your license, including paying all required fees.
