Utah Ignition Interlock Device Laws

For first and repeat DUI offenders, the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the courts may require you to install an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) in your vehicle if you…

  • Had a breath alcohol concentration (BAC) level of .08 or higher.
  • Refused a breath test or were unconscious at the time of the test.
  • Are guilty of a second or subsequent DUI offense.

*You will be responsible for all costs and installation services for the IID, and bring your vehicle in for regular monitoring and service.

How to Get Your License Quickly in Utah

  1. Your vehicle may have been impounded. Show a copy of your TC-540 Vehicle Impound Report (provided by the arresting officer) and ID to your local DPS office.
  2. Serve all jail/suspension time, as well as any community service hours.
  3. Call 800.831.3299 to schedule an appointment to have an IID installed with a state-approved, Smart Start interlock service provider.
  4. Pay all your DUI, court and license reinstatement fees.
