For first-time offenders and repeat offenders operating under the influence (OUI) in Maine, your license will be confiscated immediately per the Administrative License Revocation (ALR) if:
- Your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level was .08 or higher
- You refused a breath test
Maine courts require Ignition Interlock Devices (IID) for all OUI offenders. You’re required to pay for all costs associated with the IID, from installation, monthly lease payments, and service fees to removal. You may also be required to complete a driver education evaluation program (DEEP).
How to Get Your License Quickly in Maine
- Satisfy your suspension period and jail time requirements.
- Call your insurance agent to get proof of financial responsibility such as an SR-22 certificate.
- Fulfill the substance abuse evaluation and counseling requirement.
- Schedule an appointment to have your ignition interlock installed with an approved Smart Start interlock service provider by calling 800.831.3299.
- Visit the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles to reapply for your driver’s license and pay all of your fees and fines, including a reinstatement fee.
- Complete any pending court regulations.
