Do you live in an area where it can get well above 100 degrees some days? If you have Ignition Interlock, it’s a valid concern to think about the device’s reliability. How will your Ignition Interlock Device work in the heat? And what is the best way to take care of it?
If you’re a Smart Start client, you can take a breath and relax. We’ll make your Ignition Interlock program seamless from start to finish no matter where you live, whether it’s the Australian outback or the dry Arizona desert.
Taking Care of an Ignition Interlock Device in the Heat
Wherever you live or work, Smart Start can help you get back on the road as the most reputable and reliable Ignition Interlock provider in the world. Our clients do not experience Ignition Interlock issues with the heat. From other providers, devices can cause a headache by not working properly because of the higher temperature in your area.
As durable as a Smart Start Ignition Interlock is, we do advise that you treat it with care just like your other electronic devices. We recommend that you:
- Avoid exposing the Interlock to direct sunlight for long periods of time. Instead, place your device under your seat or somewhere in the shade when you are not driving.
- If you live in an especially dry area, you may be able to disconnect your head unit from the curly cord and take it inside with you for extra protection.
- Make sure to confirm you can disconnect the head unit with your program oversight authority or Smart Start, as some U.S. states or areas may not allow you to disconnect your head unit!
Since 1992, our team has been testing and continuously improving our products to set the standard and provide our clients an easy Ignition Interlock experience. A properly certified Ignition Interlock provider also follows and continues to maintain in its devices the federal NHTSA standards, which outlines the best specifications to date for Ignition Interlock Devices. In these standards, Ignition Interlock Devices must be able to withstand certain environmental elements just like extreme heat.
As always, if you have any questions about your Smart Start Ignition Interlock program, our team is here to help at (800) 831-3299.
