We know that navigating a DUI can be overwhelming. Understanding the requirements and process after an alcohol related driving offense in Alaska is an important step to getting back on the road. We’ve put together some general information to help you get started.
A first offense DUI in Alaska is typically a misdemeanor, but penalties are still tough. According to the Alaska Legislature’s DUI pamphlet, the required penalties for a misdemeanor DUI include:
- 72 hours imprisonment, which you may be able to serve via electronic monitoring or other methods
- A minimum fine of $1,500
- License revocation for up to 90 days
- Drug and alcohol evaluation
- Installing an Ignition Interlock Device on your vehicle
If it’s not your first DUI offense or you have other aggravating factors, penalties may be higher. Alaska law also includes a separate set of penalties for felony DUI charges, which can apply on a third or subsequent DUI (depending on individual circumstances).
