Petaluma Officers Commended for DUI Efforts
Two officers from the city of Petaluma, Walt Spiller and Matthew Capitelli, are being honored for their continued and successful efforts in the fight against drunk driving. The officers were honored during the California Office of Traffic Safety Mothers Against Drunk Driving Law Enforcement Recognition & DUI Training Seminar sponsored by the AVOID, OTS, NHTSA and MADD.
The event, which was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaluma, was attended by law enforcement leaders from all over the North Bay area. Over 90 police officers were recognized at the DUI training seminar for making significant contributions.
Using rankings from the 2014 calendar year, authorities were honored based on the number of DUI arrests they had made. Thirty-seven officers were honored for arresting 25-49 DUI offenders, nine officers were cognized for making 50-74 DUI arrests, and four officers were recognized with the Century Award for arresting 100 or more DUI offenders.
Walt Spiller was awarded for arresting 65 DUI offenders, and Matthew Capitelli was one of the four officers who received the Century Award, after arresting over 100 DUI offenders during 2014. Capitelli arrested 104 DUI offenders during 2014.
Officers all over California are continuing their efforts to remove drunk drivers from the road. Make sure you stay safe, and if you will be drinking plan ahead and designate a driver or use a taxi. You can also use Uber or Lyft, and if you are a first time user you might be able to get a free or discounted ride.
