The Beginning of Your Smart Start Mississippi Ignition Interlock Program

Let’s start at the beginning. At this point after your DUI arrest, you may have requested for your Interlock Restricted Driving License from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety DUI Department.

Once you know that you need to install an Ignition Interlock Device in Mississippi, you’ll need to schedule an installation appointment. You’ll need to have the following items with you when you arrive at your appointment.

• Your court order (if applicable), installation form or a note from your point of contact with the Ignition interlock requirement
• Payment for your installation cost (Smart Start provides the best pricing in Mississippi!)
• Two forms of photo ID
• Proof of residence

Once you arrive for your installation appointment, our knowledgeable and friendly Ignition Interlock technicians will take care of you. While the Ignition Interlock is being installed into your vehicle, we will go over how the device works and ask you to test with one until you are comfortable with the process. You’ll sign some paperwork and watch a program training video to become acquainted with Smart Start. Remember that you can always ask your technician any Ignition Interlock questions! You’ll be in and out of your installation appointment before you know it.

Now that you have the Ignition Interlock Device in your vehicle, let’s go over what to expect during your program.

During Your Smart Start Mississippi Ignition Interlock Program

In Mississippi, the state requires that you visit your service center for a calibration appointment every 30 days. You can press the # and 1 on your device keypad to show your next service appointment. It’ll also be listed on your receipts from the service location.

During your calibration appointment, our technician will ensure your device is working properly. Calibrations only take a few minutes so you can quickly get your monthly services done during a lunch break, or whenever is convenient for you!

You may have also noticed random running retests during your drives. These tests confirm you are Separating Drinking From Driving® where the device will prompt for a test at random. Make sure you pull over safely, put your vehicle in park and perform these tests. You’ll have up to six minutes to complete a random running retest.

Removing Your Smart Start Mississippi Ignition Interlock Device

Is it near the end of your Smart Start Ignition Interlock program? If so, congratulations! You just need to take a few simple steps to ensure you’re still meeting your court Ignition Interlock requirements.

First, make sure to contact your court contact to obtain removal verification. That way, all parties involved are on the same page and that you are complying with your Ignition Interlock requirement.

Next, provide any documents relevant to the removal process to removals@smartstartinc.com or fax to 972-929-6638. Make sure your full name and birth date are on all pages.

Finally, please allow one business day for processing your paperwork. Our Customer Care Center agent will notify you about your removal and the steps to follow, such as scheduling your removal appointment.
