Four Counties, One Goal – Smart Start Attends the DWI Task Force Press Conference
Someone dies in the U.S. due to a drunk driving crash every 53 minutes. And over 28 million people admitted to driving under the influence, which is more than the entire population of Texas.
It is a scary thought for everyone involved, but luckily there are organizations who are helping lower these devastating statistics.
Dallas, Tarrant, Denton and Collin County came together this week to raise awareness in combating drunk driving in North Texas.
The press conference was held November 16 at the Ruthe Jackson Center in Grand Prairie, TX with Smart Start in attendance. The four counties spoke out on making a collaborative effort to crack down on the number of DWI’s in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
The DWI Task Force is a volunteer organization comprised of civic and government entities with Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia at the reins. Since 1987, the DWI Task Force has gained momentum with more counties joining every year.
Speakers at the press conference included various members of the counties’ police departments, and MADD’s North Texas Affiliate. Dallas County Sheriff’s Department Assistant Chief Deputy Patrick Bonner, Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen, Denton County Sheriff Will Travis, Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn, Chief of Special Prosecutions for the Collin County District Attorney’s Office Jim Skinner, Program Specialist for MADD Becky Cantu-Aguilar, and Lisa Martin, who had lost her son to a drunk driver.
Smart Start also shares in the DWI Task Force’s goal of combating drunk driving. We are honored to work with police departments across the country who are helping create safer roads every day.
