DUI Checkpoints for UCSB “Move-In” Weekend
UCSB police have announced that they will be increasing their presence in Isla Vista for “move-in” weekend. Exact times and locations for these checkpoints are unknown, but authorities want the residents of Isla Vista to know that these checkpoints will be held consistently over the coming months. These checkpoints are a part of an ongoing effort by university police in Isla Vista.
Checkpoints in Isla Vista are nothing new, as they have been held in the past. However, they were previously held by California Highway Patrol or the Sheriff’s Department. The DUI checkpoints have become a local effort as part of the “Keep I.V. Local. Keep I.V. Safe.” campaign by university police to combat drunk driving. University police want to send the message to those who live in Isla Vista, and those who are visiting that driver’s need to be responsible, and avoid drinking and driving.
By law, DUI checkpoints must be posted 24 hours before they happen, but the Isla Vista checkpoints are expected to happen between 6pm and 4am. Check back here for more checkpoints as they are posted.
