Cinco de Mayo Drunk Driving Facts in the U.S.

We don’t want to dampen the mood, but holidays in the U.S. do see an unfortunate rise in drunk driving crashes.  Cinco de Mayo is largely celebrated with tequilas and margaritas, so with alcohol such a huge part of the holiday festivities, there is generally an increase in drunk drivers.

Over a five-year period, 270 people died in drunk driving crashes over the Cinco de Mayo holiday. Not only that, but one-third of all vehicle fatalities during Cinco de Mayo from 2012 to 2016 involved a drunk driver, according to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

Luckily, drunk driving crashes during Cinco de Mayo have decreased over the past five years. Let’s keep the trend going! Make sure you and your friends have proper arrangements in place before you leave a party.
