Interlock Device Best Practices, Education, and More at the AIIPA Conference
An Interlock Device can be confusing for new clients, but once they get the hang of testing on it, the rest of the program is easy.
Statewide Interlock Device programs can also be confusing for those who manage them. From installation to removal, and all services in-between, these programs are constantly changing to keep up with the latest technology and statutory changes.
This is where the Association of Ignition Interlock Program Administrators (AIIPA) steps in, and provides best practices nationwide to create a smooth process for all involved with Interlock Devices.
How?
AIIPA’s History
AIIPA was founded in 2011 with a mission to improve traffic safety by educating stakeholders on Interlock Devices. State agencies needed to know what an Interlock Device could do, and the benefit of enforcing them in their area.
AIIPA was created with grant funding provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Since its inception, AIIPA has worked with the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF), the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) and the Governor’s Highway Safety Association (GHSA).
The organization’s primary objectives are to provide education and training to individuals who use, regulate and/or manage statewide Interlock Device programs.
AIIPA’s 2017 Conference
This year, Smart Start is attending AIIPA’s 5th annual conference to support the mission of educating stakeholders on Interlock Devices nationwide.
The event provides an opportunity for attendees to learn about Interlock regulations, research, best practices and emerging technology.
In addition, states represent different types of Interlock Device programs – judicial, administrative and hybrid. The AIIPA conference is the only U.S. event with representation of all types under one roof.
Researchers and key influencers also present to keep attendees in the know on all things Interlock.
Lastly, there are opportunities to network with trade organizations, vendors, government entities, highway safety groups and more.
This year’s AIIPA conference is May 22nd to the 24th in Richmond, Virginia at the Omni Hotel off 100 S 12th St. Smart Start is looking forward to seeing you there!
