What do I need to bring to my installation?
Once you have scheduled your ignition interlock installation with Smart Start, you will need to bring the following to your ignition interlock installation appointment:
- The vehicle on which you will be installing the Ignition Interlock Device (IID)
- A valid form of photo identification
- Any payment that may be due at the time of installation
How do I know if Smart Start’s devices are compliant with my program?

What happens if I violate?
Circumvention and skipped service appointments are only violation that count.
How often does my IID need to be serviced?
Every 30 days.
What do I need for removal?
In order to remove your Ignition Interlock Device (IID), you only need to schedule a removal appointment with your nearest Smart Start service center and pay the required removal fee. If you wish to remove your Ignition Interlock Device before you are eligible for license reinstatement, then your time with the ignition interlock may not count towards reinstatement.
What if I have a requirement, but I don’t own a vehicle?
Need to fulfill requirement to regain DL.
Do I need the device on all of my vehicles?
No, you will only need the Ignition Interlock Device installed on the vehicle(s) you will be driving during your requirement.
Where can I go for service? Anywhere, or just within my state?
You must service in Georgia.
What constitutes a violation in my state?
Missing your service appointment and circumventions.
What do I need to do to install voluntarily?

How do I know if I need a camera/GPS/etc.?
Only the interlock is required.
Where does installation fall based on my condition?

How do I know who my State authority is?
Violations go to DDS unless ordered by probation or courts which they will monitor.
How can I pay for calibration?
At the service center – credit card only – no cash.
Where do I send a record of my service appointments?
Service center will provide a form to client to bring to DMV.
Does this thing hurt my vehicle?
No, Smart Start’s Ignition Interlock Device will not hurt your vehicle. Smart Start technicians are certified and qualified to install, service, and remove an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) safely on any vehicle make and model without harming the vehicle in any way.
Can I get one on my motorcycle?
Motorcycle Ignition Interlock installation laws differ by state. Smart Start operates throughout the U.S. as a certified manufacturer and will work harder than other companies to provide you a seamless Interlock program that still follows your case requirements in the state of Georgia.
